Since streaming services depend on your internet connection, making sure you have plenty of broadband and data usage is important for creating a high-quality viewing experience.
The average home has seven devices connected to the internet including Smart TVs, mobile phones, gaming consoles, smart home devices. All of these devices share the available bandwidth and data usage within your home.
A typical recommendation for bandwidth is 5 Mbps per person per device. So for example, if 4 people are streaming video at a time, this requires 20 Mbps of broadband service just to watch video. This is the absolute minimum speed and does not take into account additional devices that might also be using your Internet at the same time.
Do you need more speed? Call us at (800) 903-0508 to chat with a customer service specialist about the best broadband service for your needs, or complete this form https://www.eastarkansasvideo.com/broadband to be contacted about limited-time upgrade offerings.
Need to test your speed? Visit speedtest.net to check your download and upload speeds directly from your computer or mobile phone.
Streaming services typically fall into two categories: On Demand, and Live TV
On Demand streaming services include Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu (Hulu also offers Live TV). These services offer a library of video content that you can access and watch whenever you choose.
Live TV streaming services include Philo TV, Sling TV, Hulu+ Live TV, YouTube TV (and more) and are delivered over the internet, but function like traditional cable TV in that you are watching the shows live or you can record shows and watch them later.
One of the cool things about streaming services is that you can watch them on a variety of devices. You can hook up a Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV device to your TV and watch them on the big stream, like you’re already used to. Or, you can download an app and watch them on your smart phone. Sometimes you can watch them through a web browser on your laptop. Some streaming services can also be watched on gaming consoles like XBox.
